Fume Blanc aka Sauvignon Blanc

Bright and crisp, this wine is made in a Loire style with no oak influence. Aromas of lemon peel and melon and grapefruit are backed by a hint of fresh cut hay. The flavors are of lemongrass, citrus and melon balanced by racy acids and a fresh finish. This wine would go well with most seafood dishes as well as stir-frys, Thai or Japanese food.

The Fume has been awarded best white wine by at least one foothill competition in 2006, 2007, & 2008 plus a gold medal at Orange County in 2008. It was awarded best white wine at all three foothill competitions in 2007.

Unoaked Chardonnay
A completely different Chardonnay than most consumers are accustomed to, this wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and so has natural Chardonnay fruity character unadulterated by wood and malolactic fermentation. Light straw in color with aromas of green apple, pineapple and citrus, in the mouth the flavors open with lemon and grapefruit followed by pear and pineapple with a crisp finish.

Barrel-Fermented Chardonnay
This wine is in the traditional California Chardonnay style. With lovely aromas of pineapple, citrus, vanilla and notes of butter, this wine fills your mouth with luscious fruit and a lingering finish. Great with seafood dishes, roast chicken with herbs and pork tenderloin grilled with a mustard glaze.  Sold only at the winery.

Roussanne
An exciting addition to our Rhône portfolio, Roussanne is a native of the Northern Rhône Valley. In our quest to become the premier Rhône producer of California, we decided to expand by introducing another white wine to our growing line of Rhône-style wines. Aromatic with notes of melon, quince, citrus and mineral. The mouthfeel is creamy, enhanced by partial malolactic fermentation with flavors of stone fruits, melon and flint. This is a very different white wine from the others we produce, with rich aromas and mouthfeel but a crisp finish.

Viognier

The grapes from which this wine is made originate in the Condrieu appellation of the Northern Rhone Valley of France.  The grapes are very delicate and should be grown in a cool climate with little new oak ageing, otherwise it will taste like a poor Chardonnay.

In the glass the wine is a medium straw color with lovely fragrances of honeysuckle, rose petals and citrus blossoms. In the mouth the flavors of peaches and apricots are balanced with a rich texture and a bright level of acidity. The Viognier pairs wonderfully with seafood and poultry dishes and the rich flavors in the mid-palate enable this wine to complement spicy Asian dishes, such as Thai curry, especially well.

Viognier-Roussanne
This is our first blend of these two varietals and it has made a lovely wine. The Viognier adds much of the floral, peachy and spicy nose with a touch of honey. The Roussanne adds to the structure providing more apple and citrus character with a round mouthfeel and a hint of mineral in the finish. This wine is delicious with many chicken and fish dishes as well as many Ethnic cuisines. We had it with sauteed chicken with fresh summer herbs and saffron rice and it was delicious.  Many customers like it better than either of its components.

Belle Rose
A lovely dark pink color with fresh aromas of strawberry and wild raspberry. In the mouth the wine is full and smooth with hints of red plum, wild raspberry and cherry. Barrel fermentation in neutral oak and partial malolactic gives the wine a complexity and smoothness in the mid-palate and finish. This is one of our favorite summer wines served chilled as an aperitif or try it with your next picnic.

Lynelle
This is a non-vintage Cabernet Sauvignon based blend with fair amounts of Syrah and Grenache. The aromas are fruity with black cherry, plum, wild strawberry and spices. The ripe juicy strawberry and cherry flavors are from the Grenache while the backbone and layers are provided by the Cabernet Sauvigon and Syrah. We give this wine a cuvee number to distinguish the different lots we make of it. It pairs well with a variety of foods and is a great price.  Sold only in El Dorado and near by counties.

Syrah, Sierra Foothills
In the glass, this is a dark purple wine with rich hues of garnet and plum. The aromas are of spices and leather with hints of black fruits and clove. In the mouth, the tannins open to layers of rich spice and bold fruit.  It is now estated bottled.

Grenache
Another exciting addition to our Rhone portfolio, Grenache has been widely used in many different forms for many years. In the United States it is now slowly becoming known as a wonderful grape varietal with many great qualities to offer. In France, it has a great reputation in wines such as Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas in the Southern Rhone . We have been growing Grenache for a number of years and using it as a blending varietal in our Fleur de Montagne. We usually blend the Grenache with 20% Syrah to increase the complexity and structure of the wine. It is a lovely ruby color with very characteristic aromas of black cherry, raspberry and strawberry fruit, spice cake and a hint of pepper. It is great with many different dishes such as barbecued chicken, Korean barbecued beef, or stuffed pork tenderloin.  If you have never tried Grenache ours can be very much like a Good fruity Pinot Noir: very silky and smooth in your mouth.

Grenache Rose
Our rose typically has a rose petal red color with aromas of strawberry/raspberry with a hint of rose. The taste is dominated by strawberries and raspberries with a hint of pomegranate. It has a clean long finish and is great by itself around a pool or at a picnic. Serve with barbequed chicken, fish and hamburgers.

Fleur de Montagne

Two of the best wines John had ever tasted were Chateau Rayas and Chateau de Beaucastle(where the cuttings for our two blocks of Grenache originate), both from Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhone Valley of France.  He decided he had to have a Rhone Blend.  It is called Fleur de Montagne, pronounced "mon taan ya" It is made from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Fleur is a very versatile wine that goes well with barbequed salmon, most chicken and turkey dishes as well as with all red meats.

This is always one of our favorites.  Dark garnet in color, the aromas emerge from the glass as bright red fruits - cherry, raspberry and plum - and rose petal notes. In the mouth, the wine is smooth with flavors of cherry, blackberry, white pepper and clove. This wine can be paired with red meats as well as chicken and turkey. It is a wonderfully versatile wine that complements roast pork as well as blackened salmon.

Syrah, La Grande
After making Syrah for many years from the Estrella River clone (traced back to the vineyards of Chapoutier in the Northern Rhone), we started contracting for some fruit from a grower that has Clone 1 Syrah from UC Davis. The fruit is very different than what we have growing here on our Estate. It produces a bigger wine with more leather and spice characteristics and not as much up front red fruit. We thought the name should relay that to the consumer and so "La Grande" Syrah or "the big" Syrah came to be. Inky purple in color with aromas of currant, blackberry jam and layers of smoke and leather, intense flavors of black pepper, clove, and leather followed by hints of toast and black fruits. The structure is round with velvety tannins and balanced acidity. We enjoy this paired with braised lamb shanks in a red wine reduction or Eggplant Parmesan. Sold only at the winery.

Mourvedre
Mourvedre produces exciting wines, particularly when blended with the fruitiness of Grenache and the spiciness of Syrah as we do here at Sierra Vista. Our great microclimate for Rhone style wines produces Mourvedre with luscious black fruits, soft and delicate tannins, and mouth-filling charm with layers of complexity including faint clove, briars, and sage. Mourvedre can improve for up to 10 years when stored properly.

Red Rock Ridge Syrah
The Red Rock Ridge Syrah is very reminiscent of a Cote Rotie. Deep purple in color with a wonderful bouquet of red berry and violets, the ripe, juicy raspberry and cherry flavors marry well with hints of oak and medium tannins. This wine will age nicely over the next 6 to 12 years. Our flagship Syrah.

Zinfandel, El Dorado
This Zinfandel has a vibrant purple-red color and a classic bouquet filled with red raspberry, black cherry and abundant spices with pepper and light notes of oak. When you taste our Zinfandel you will note that Sierra Vista does not follow the industry direction dictated by wine writers who give high ratings to wines like Zinfandel, Syrah and even Cab that have high alcohol and residual sugar.  We believe wine is a food and should be consumed with meals.  And you can enjoy a couple glasses when it is lower alcohol.
This is an excellent choice with stuffed peppers, eggplant parmesan and other rich Italian dishes.

Zinfandel, Reeves Vineyard
In the glass the wine is dark purple in color with lovely aromas of black pepper, raspberry and cherry. A very full, rich wine with an initial sweetness as the fruit opens with raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, pepper and anise. There are soft tannins that will enable the wine to improve over the next 4-6 years.

Cabernet Sauvignon
In the glass, our Cabernet Sauvignon is rich burgundy in color with tints of indigo. The aromas are of black cherry, briar, cassis and spicy cedar. In the mouth, the wine opens with bright berry fruit followed by a full, round mid-palate. The finish lingers with rich notes of chocolate and cherry. We try to introduce enough new oak to add to the complexity without overpowering the fruit. Tasting our older Cabernets has proven that our vineyard  consistently produces wines that live ten or more years with proper storage.  We consider this our entry level offering.
We also make a RESERVE version that is more intense, complex and smoother than the one listed above.

Old-Clone Zinfandel
The Old Clone Zinfandel is produced with a clone of Zin that dates back to the late 1800's. We were lucky enough to get cuttings from this vineyard when we first started as it no longer exists. Very rich and bold with a deep purple hue, the Old Clone has wonderful aromas of boysenberry, raspberry, sweet cherry, cinnamon and black pepper. In the mouth, the wine has soft, chocolatey tannins and ripe, concentrated fruit with notes of boysenberry jam, plum and pepper. The rich fruit is nicely balanced by mellow oak and is an ideal match with barbeque, spicy Mexican dishes or Indian cuisine.

Cabernet Sauvignon Five Star Reserve
In the glass the wine appears an extremely dark purple with hints of garnet. The aromas are very complex with great cassis, earth, and black raspberry fruits. In the mouth there is an initial sweetness with lots of jam, ripe cassis and anise flavors with plenty of soft tannin and great extract seasoned with medium oak flavors. Will compete with Cab grown anywhere.

Viognier Doux
This wine is a beautiful golden color in the glass with rich aromas of apricot, honey and peaches. With alcohol of 11% and residual sugar of about 10 % without being syrupy. Delicious with fresh sliced peaches over vanilla ice cream or sweeten whipped cream with it before topping Pumpkin pie or just to sip for desert.

Merlot
This wine is lovely, soft, and  fruity  with dramatic berry flavors.   We have three of the better Merlot clones in the estate, hillside vineyard that add complexity and finesse.  Older oak cooperage is used to moderate oak influence.  This is a versatile wine with many nuances to go with a variety of moderately seasoned foods including duck, lamb and pork entrees or try it with herb-roasted or barbecued chicken and of course hamburgers.
We also make a RESERVE version that is more intense, complex and smoother than the one listed above.
