Around the Tasting Room
Concert season is in full swing now that summer is here! We excited to present some new bands in addition to the favorites that play every year. We have a Led Zepplin, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and other cover bands lined up. It’s going to be a great season for music so keep an eye on the schedule to catch your favorite shows.
We’re most excited to get our food program back in full swing. Some of you know we had a set back with our last chef, but we’re thrilled to announce that our new chef is on board and we’ll be doing even better things than before. We’ll be doing a variety of charcuterie boards, small plates to pair with our wine, specialty pizzas of course, and even planning on roasting a pig during one of our fun concerts this year! Also keep an eye out for special dinner events throughout the year too.
Outside the tasting room, we’ve relocated our pizza oven (Big Lora) to a more central location and will be setting up a bar area around it to make things more convenient and enjoyable.
We’ll look forward to seeing you soon!
Around the Winery/Production
The late spring and early summer season is always busy around the winery. The vines are growing, the cover crop is coming in and everything is green. This spring has been almost ideal with no significant threats of frost, and mostly mild weather aside from a few rain storms. We had bud break around April 20th this year which is a full month later than last year. This means we will have a later harvest with cooler temperatures during the onset of ripening. All indicators of a classic vintage growing season in the vineyards.
In the cellar during the month of May we bottled all of the 2023 Whites and Roses. A few wines to look forward to are the 2023 Picpoul Blanc, and our second vintage of White Grenache, both of which are showing beautifully. As spring turns to summer we shift our focus to the vineyards where mowing, shoot thinning, pruning, canopy management, irrigation, and fixing fencing and our trellis system come to the top of our to-do lists. There’s never a dull moment at Sierra Vista!
